Models and norms for prison libraries

The article begins with a presentation of various models of organising prison libraries in the US, UK, and Spain, before looking at the national and international norms based on these models. The author describes the three most important norms, drawn up by the American Library Association, the Library Association, and the International Federation of Library Associations, in terms of staffing, budgets, collections, and services. The Spanish model, currently unsatisfactory, is moving towards greater integration into the public libraries system.
