The role of film in the university and in its documentation: the example of Paris III

Since its creation in 1969, and concerned to support its teaching by providing access to its works, the first film and audiovisual research department at the Paris III University has initiated an impressive collection of film resources. In this way, the University Film Library has acquired, through a wide variety of means, more than 5000 silver films, a video library at the UFR which preserves 14000 recorded films; and the University Library which, since the end of the 1980s, has carried out an active acquisitions’ policy for VHS and DVD, most of these can be viewed on site and since very recently at home.
