The ageing of a profession and cross-generation misunderstandings in librarianship

The ageing of the baby boom professional generation has already begun. The author revisits the data available relating to demographic structures and the different types of professional roles in libraries. He underlines the problematical aspect of the difference in age between staff and users. He suggests that everything should be set in place to ensure that the knowledge and experience, advantages of maturity, should be transmitted under the best possible conditions to the new generation of professionals.
