At the Saint-Herblain library, acquisitions' librarians have as their mandate to build a long term, coherent collection. This has been the object of a collection development charter. The purchase of novels represents an important part of the budget and of the library's collection. It has been decided to spread orders throughout the year at regular intervals. This serves to avoid linking the management of acquisitions with a policy driven by commercial hype and to escape from a spiral of "new for the sake of the new".
