Libraries for adolescents in Russia: beginnings
Young people aged 15 to 24 represent a quarter of the membership of Russian libraries. Libraries for young people were developed particularly in the 1970s. At that time they had a function that was essentially ideological. Since perestroïka, they have experienced a profound structural crisis. The federal programme "Culture in Russia, 2001-2005" has financed a significant number of projects since 2001.
