Regional structures for the book: evolution and trends

Decentralisation laws have led to the setting up since 1984 of regional structures for the book (agencies of cooperation between libraries or regional centres of the book). Financed mainly by regional councils and regional departments of cultural affairs, these linked structures give rise to and broaden the exchanges among the whole body of participants, public or private, in the book and documentation world. Starting from a biennial enquiry, this article recounts the main lines of development of their operation and activities.
