Libraries and (re)-creation

Libraries are neither sterile museums of obsolete printed material nor supermarkets of made-to-measure information. The diversity, and often the uniqueness, of their collections are the source of intellectual, aesthetic and individual initiatives. Starting from some examples taken from the most varied fields of activity and knowledge, the central place that libraries are able to occupy in the procedures of creators is demonstrated. In this way a sketch is produced of librarians who are mindful of their environment and fully involved in the contents of the collections they are building and conserving.
