Elements in preparation for self-education

Self-educated people are perhaps symbolic of lifelong learning, of which their history suggests they are the forerunners. At the same time they could be a kind of prefiguration of the vital lifelong self-education of everyone. Various approaches in the humanities and the social sciences have tried for about twenty years to identify and understand the practical details of self-education as they change with the times and in their cultural and academic contexts. Generally speaking, training processes for self-education have for long been closely dependent on the book and libraries.
