Patron groups of music libraries

An attempt has been made to construct profiles for users of the music libraries on nine different sites in seven French towns. What place does the record collection hold in their music listening habits? What is their relationship with music, with the professionals, and with other users? What are their expectations? The places surveyed are for the general public, being municipal libraries, and not, for example, libraries of conservatoires. In fact the client groups appear to be extremely typical. At the same time surveys were being carried out in English and in German. In the countries involved (USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria), thanks are due to the students and trainee professional staff who carried out the surveys.
