The Conservation Plan : A Tool to Develop

If the state of the patrimony of French libraries has notably improved during the last two decades, much remains yet to be tackled. To allow the preservation or the restoration of threatened collections, sometimes incommunicable, it is necessary to deploy a vast panoply of measures adapted to the state of holdings and to the technical, human and financial means available. The conservation plan, in establishing an assessment of the state of collections and in proposing diversified, complementary and hierarchical treatments appears to be a tool adapted to the situation of many libraries and calls without doubt for its development.
