A Research Library Faced with Electronic Publishing: the Laboratoire européen pour la physique des particules

The development of periodical holdings has always constituted a major component of the acquisition policies of research libraries. Today, these are simultaneously confronted, and in an acute manner, with a certain recurrent difficulty the uninterrupted increase in the cost of subscriptions and with a radical new item still difficult to master and which rather engenders surcharges the marketing of digital documents, principally periodicals. An organ of a pioneering establishment in the matter of the use of computer networks for the diffusion of research results, the library of the Laboratoire has, for several years already, integrated this new data in its acquisition policy.
