The Public Library of Maine-et-Loire County : Establishing a Library Network

If cooperation between public libraries has been practiced since the eighteenth century, the discourse around the notion of a network is a recent arrival. It has formalized exchanges between institutions and their governing bodies and justified the economical management of available resources. Today, the creation of local library networks is born out of a willingness to participate with other cultural services for the improvement of local communities. However, the perpetuation of these original forms of cooperation implies their integration into a policy of national and regional development towards a plural culture, and the recognition, beyond this formal model, of the essential contribution of the architects of local development.
