Documentary needs in rural areas: the example of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

The documentary needs in rural areas have been analysed in a mountain district, where the print of remoteness makes the problem of information and documentation provision actually heavy. Information demands and offers are mainly related to professional training, documentation about the country, useful advices, and also useful documentation for cultural life. According to these elements, the author draws the texture of what could be called a "local documentation and information service" and puts the advantages of the central lending library as well as its diffusion network forward to be the right support for such an operation.
