Collections, knowledge, and knowledge management at the Cinémathèque française

The article sets out to demonstrate why knowledge development and management has become a key issue in collection development policy at an institution like the Cinémathèque française, which has a role in maintaining historic collections. The author draws on two concrete examples –the creation of an institute of film technology and the implementation of a policy of co-operation with the research field– to explain how the Cinémathèque has responded to this new challenge.
