Current evaluation methods at the Vigo University Library

Spanish universities and their libraries launched a new policy in the 1990s designed to introduce a culture of quality through institutional evaluation. As the Vigo University Library began setting up its ISO 9001 management system in 2006, the Spanish national quality and accreditation evaluation agency (Aneca, Agencia nacional de evaluación de la calidad y acreditación) implemented a programme aimed at evaluating university services on the basis of criteria established by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). Implementing the ISO 9001 standard enabled the university to develop its quality management profile, gaining experience in “total quality” and thereby achieving excellence. Institutional evaluation, quality management, and excellence all go hand in hand at the University of Vigo.
