Shared conservation of collections for young people: an example of co-operation in the Midi-Pyrénées region

The article introduces the regional conservation plan for collections for young people piloted by the Centre Régional des Lettres (CRL) for the Midi-Pyrénées region. It studies the process, from the feasibility study launched early in 2004 by a steering committee consisting of volunteers from representative institutions and libraries to the first findings three years later. The article explains the respective duties of the establishments that hold the collections (in charge of conservation), associated establishments (which enrich the former’s collections through the process of weeding), multimedia libraries in each département, which provide logistical support, and the CRL. The article also gives a voice to each partner in the process, who give their own account of the experience.
