The Queens Library: a model in the service of cultural diversity and linguistics

The hundred year old Queens Library houses a collection in over 25 languages. Its activities for recent arrivals are built around the New Americans Progam (NAP), designed in collaboration with the communities and their neighbourhood libraries. A programme in English for non-English speakers, programme planning which favours cultural exchange, population surveys, technology support for a multilingual approach, training, a resource centre and international cooperation make this library a model of balanced understanding of the numerous immigrant communities of the county of Queens.
