Pictures in libraries: assessment and perspectives in the age of digitization

The association “Images en bibliothèques” (Pictures in Libraries), created in 1989, has as its vocation to enhance film and audiovisual collections in libra-ries, to work for the recognition of collective knowledge and to vitalize the network of “picture librarians”. It offers training (privileging knowledge of documentary films), encourages the diffusion of professional information, and establishes every year, with the BPI, a selection of documentary films. Since 2000, it coordinates the Month of the Documentary Film, an event of national importance. Although the association receives support, its means are modest faced with the gamble of digitization, notably those linked to the offer of content and cultural activity.
