National Libraries: Problems for National Libraries in Less Developed Countries

This article makes a point on the state of national libraries in countries where information systems are less developed. The author tackles problems posed by the constitution of collections where legal deposit functions poorly or doesn't exist, by the definition of the mission of these libraries - which often have several functions -, by the construction or extension of buildings, by the conservation and enhanced value of national heritage. Equally touched upon are the varying degrees of computerization, the functional difficulties of furnishing documents and of interlibrary loans.
