Are those readers, readers ?

The novel by Agota Kristof, The Notebook, has been proposed to be read to a group of students of vocational education (LP in French) in Parisian suburbs. For most of these youths, it was the first successfull experience of reading. Some internal characteristics of the text will be evoked to explain this success. The text guarantees the ethical freedom of the reader and, owing to the « fluent » reading its style permits, it gives to the inexperimented reader, apparently without « reading ability », the possibility to product a complex, ambivalent « world of reading » to which one can confront one's own incertitudes.
