The Roubaix digital library and other collaborations: the Roubaix archives, multimedia library, and museum

The Roubaix digital library is the tip of the iceberg of heritage resources offered by the town’s principal cultural institutions: the multimedia library, archives, museum, and conservatoire. While it was only planned recently, it nonetheless represents the fruition of a much older project to bring together institutions representing the local heritage as a way of promoting their holdings. The article looks back at the nineteenth-century forerunners who first planned to bring these cultural institutions together – a project that is still underway and that remains highly relevant in the twenty-first century.
