How I use libraries: Research notes, 1985-2010

From his very first Bibliothèque nationale reader’s card in 1985 to his recent research at the Institut Mémoires de l’édition contemporaine, the biographer Antoine de Baecque describes his impressions of the libraries he has used over the years, looking particularly at their access policies and cataloguing practices. His own research methods have changed considerably over the years, in line with technology and his own projects, and he finds himself caught between the intoxicating possibilities of accessing the world’s knowledge and the paucity of his own tools faced with ever-proliferating sources of information.
