The place of religion in public libraries: a key contemporary debate
Christianity tends to be over-represented in collections on religion in public libraries, which fail to reflect the diversity both of library users and of religious practices in modern western society. The present article draws on a field study by Enssib students, looking at the borrowing rate for books held on open shelving in some ten libraries, and analyses the reasons why different religions are unevenly represented in such collections.
