From ideal library to real multimedia centre: the Montpellier Agglomération Network

Faced with a dip in activity at multimedia centres and evolving patterns of use by the local population, the network of multimedia libraries in Montpellier and the surrounding agglomeration proactively set up a relaunch plan to democratise access to information and knowledge. They set out to challenge the French model of multimedia libraries, while retaining key innovations. The plan proposed services to individuals, accessible both on and off site through dedicated spaces, reception areas, documentary resources, games, blogs, and wikis to make users feel they were valued participants in a physical and virtual community.
