The Atger museum at the Medical University Library in Montpellier

The collector Jean-François Xavier Atger, convinced that drawings are the ideal link between medicine and art, donated between 1813 and 1823, nearly a thousand drawings, five thousand engravings and four paintings to the Medical University Library in Montpellier. Since the first donations, the library and the museum have been managed by the librarian; and they have worked closely together for their conservation and their enhancement. This has brought about an extremely satisfactory compromise, thanks in the main to class-fronted show cases and through loans to external exhibitions
