The assassination of cataloguers

More and more descriptive cataloguing is being outsourced to service companies, notably in the case of derivative catalogues. Nevertheless, control from the librarian as expert is a guarantee of its quality. We are also seeing a simplification of entries, supposedly for economic reasons and the user friendliness of the Opac. In consequence the teaching of cataloguing has been reduced and devalued. As for the issue of semantic access, this remains an open question.
