The Russian National State Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow

Established in 1921, the Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow possesses a collection of about 4.4 million documents in 140 different languages. This important international centre of culture and research has contributed substantially to the development of foreign languages, of the literature and the cultures of foreign countries, as well as to the development of international relations of Russian libraries and the implementation of numerous international cultural and educational programmes. Among its many other activities are mentioned the professional training of librarians, the organisation of exhibitions, and of national and international conferences and seminars, etc. Four foreign cultural centres are housed in its premises.
