Literature for youngsters and teenagers: evolution and trends

In the excessive production of books for the young, the part reserved for adolescents is not the smallest. Unclassifiable beyond comparison inasmuch as the public itself is difficult to determine, it is nevertheless possible to distinguish four important trends taking shape that match at one and the same time the supposed abilities of an expert and informed reader, the needs of personalities in process of being formed, the interests of a public more and more open to a world in which it is a question of finding one's place, and especially that show a willingness on the part of publishers to concentrate on the works of authors who genuinely have things to say and stand for, in a demanding and often original aesthetic form.
