The library, laboratory of the mathematician

With the arrival of electronic documents and the Internet, we are currently experiencing a veritable revolution in the domain of writing. Having defined what is a library for research in mathematics and observed its functioning, as much from the point of view of the workforce as for its usefulness for researchers, the impact of electronic technology on such a library is considered. Advantages and drawbacks are reviewed. Finally we attempt to project ourselves into the future, in order to imagine the consequences of these new technologies on mathematical research, and to see how mathematicians attempt to control this evolutionary development.
