New strategic directions for the British Library

The British Library has reviewed its strategic directions by focusing outwardly on its support for users, in the context of a rapidly changing external environment. Our primary objective is to get documents and information into the hands of those who need it as quickly and cheaply as possible. For this, we need to recognise the centrality of the Web to our future and gradually re-position ourselves as a key player in collaborative arrangements within national and international networks of libraries and with other bodies to ensure the timely provision of appropriate services for the future. As we pursue our strategic journey we find that our traditional roles and responsibilities continue to apply but the ways in which we deliver them will change.
