Research libraries

The great libraries are also research ones, but there are many special libraries, closer to the researchers'needs and practices, even if, in France, their means for functioning and maintenance are often insufficient. The modern techniques of reproduction and communication of the patrimonial documents lead to a new definition of the library every researcher dreams of. The reference libraries we move towards are essential for research, provided that they are widely open to the scientific international production, but they cannot grow in number. A national network, even a European one, must be organized for them to be better known and available for a remote consultation.
