Pictures of Parisian life

University libraries in Paris were born from a legislative will after 1968. They progressively made themselves up, resting on 12 from the 13 Universities created then in the suburbs of Paris. The geographical scattering of the libraries departments, their numbers, the heterogeneousness of the surfaces and essentially their small dimensions bring bad running of services - lack of seats, little-developped free access as a whole - and have some effects on consultation on the premises and on working conditions of the staff. Those difficulties mainly result from the overpopulation of students in Paris and in the suburbs, which has not been corrected by any new building for more than 10 years.
