Conservation, communication, weeding

Through lack of space or following a revision of their assignments, libraries are more and more induced to work out a plan for weeding and shared conservation. In foreign countries the solution consists in deposit libraries. History and features of these foreign experiences are taken from articles or workshops at IFLA. In France, even if their insertion is rather slow, those weeding and shared conservation functions are more and more put into practice and appear in training too. But, if the main criteria of efficiency are drawn up, general recommendations are missing. Actually, a plan of a Technical centre for books is in the process of being carried out, but only for academic and university libraries of Paris and its region.
