The Electronic manuscript : form the stream to the drip, or from photosetting to word processing

The electronic manuscript is the result (generally in floppy disk form) of the texts input on electronic data processing equipment, by the authors themselves. How far this experience, already in use in British universities, is an alternative to the traditional techniques and can question the distribution of responsibilities and competences between authors, publishers and printers ?
